Most people hate writing a cover letter even more than they hate preparing a resume! I recently worked with a job seeker who said that he refused to apply for any graduate roles that required a cover letter to accompany the application. This is was what I liked to call a “resume bomber” – someone whose aim is to apply to as many jobs as possible and just “hope for the best”.

On a daily basis, I’m out in the field. The work I do is pretty varied and so one day I might be using a GPS to set out drill patterns and mark out boundaries of shots inside the mine. I also work outside the mine on dump acts. To monitor stations on a high wall to detect any movement, I get to use a jigger and use a Riscan scanner to scan blasts.

Being a mine geologist with us, means you’re involved in most aspects of mining, from drill pattern designs and determining grades to be mined through to methods of mining and getting the ore to the crusher. You have to co-ordinate and plan with engineers, grade control, supervisors, surveyors and operators, so it’s pretty varied.
