The Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics (ABARE), located in Canberra, is an Australian Government economic research agency noted for its professionally independent research and analysis.
Our objective is to contribute to the competitiveness of Australia’s agricultural, fishing, forestry, energy and minerals industries and the quality of the Australian environment by providing independent economic research analysis and forecasting.
ABARE employs around 130 staff comprising economists, statisticians, modellers, mathematicians and support staff.
Who are we looking for?
We look for motivated graduates with a strong interest in economic policy and a background in economics, statistics and/or applied mathematics.
Applicants for our graduate program are expected to be performing to honors level or be moving towards a strong double degree with significant economic content.
Job profile
Graduate economists at ABARE undertake economic research, commodity forecasting, modelling and/or statistical analysis contributing to our research program from day one on issues as diverse as climate change, water reform, agricultural trade and resources and energy developments.We make sure that your knowledge and skills are developed by assigning you to a team of highly skilled and experienced research staff in one of ABARE’s many areas of research.
ABARE conducts large numbers of consultancy projects for clients in Government and industry so you will experience working in a client oriented business environment.

Eligibility: Applicants must be Australian citizens and be in their final year of study toward an honors degree or a strong double degree in economics, statistics or applied mathematics, or have already graduated in one of these fields:
