Firm description
JWS is a firm of corporate and commercial lawyers who deliver legal services of the highest quality to a select client group of major business organisations. We do not aspire to be one of Australia’s largest law firms; instead we focus on maintaining relationships with individual clients over the long term, managing their complex legal issues, implementing their transactions and resolving their disputes. The ratio of senior practitioners to junior lawyers on average across the firm is 1 to 1 and our focus is on delivering outstanding client service through effective teamwork and a collaborative culture.
What we are looking for
We are looking for students with an excellent academic record, a demonstrated interest in corporate and commercial law, and outstanding communication skills. Our graduates also need to be enthusiastic about providing exceptional service in a stimulating work environment to some of the most significant business organisations in Australia. Students who become JWS lawyers will receive significant responsibility at an early stage and gain confidence in their abilities with appropriate support. Therefore, they should also be able to recognise that the most effective way to develop professionally is to work closely with senior lawyers.
Application Process
Graduate recruitment
Graduates at JWS are given the opportunity to work across various practice areas and are supervised by a number of different senior practitioners. We believe that a broad range of experience, exposure to high quality work and close working relationships with senior practitioners provides the best foundation for commercial lawyers.
Graduate recruitment applications
Graduate recruitment applications may be made at any time. However, most of our graduates will have completed a summer clerkship with us. Graduate positions usually become available at the conclusion of the summer clerkship program in February of each year.
Seasonal Clerkship applications
A clerkship with JWS is the first step in a long and rewarding career with our firm. Summer clerkships run over December, January and February for 9-12 weeks. Clerks will have exposure to a number of different practice areas during the clerkship and will work closely with many senior lawyers.
