Hi Danna5!

Thanks for posting. I love that this is more of a discussion topic than a query. Let me add to it by saying I believe one of the nest ways to maintain our cultural heritage is to have it be a major part of the tourism brief. As I get even a little older, I find myself more interested in such things than I did on those family vacations in the minivan.

I would love to see tourism professionals take the idea of getting cultural heritage into mainstream marketing initiatives. I know some areas are trying already such as freemanproductions.com.au and hopefully more will get on board!

As for the role...do you have a particular area you want to work in? Its likely that you will be entering the government sector, especially at first, but maybe you should start your own business of consulting in this field? Could be exciting! Let us know what you think and if we can help you further.
Cheers,

Adam

Hi Adam,
Thanks for your response...I guess Australian's think of cultural heritage as indigenous culture, but it is all culture of all people.....what people do...what they value...what they want to preserve...and also what they want to promote! (i.e. thats were tourism comes in I think...) The U.S. is right onto this concept of elevating culture to the tourism 'centrepiece' that it is, and utilising tourism to enhance culture in a positive way, especially given these economic times, and also times of globalisation and technology having the potent effect of diluting indivual cultures into a global consumer type cultural hybrid....I really think Australia needs to get there finger out on this one...apparently W.A. have starte investigating this concept ......yes...thanks....going to set up a website...also have a 12 working visa approved for the u.s. so will try (hope) that some opportunity comes up.....lovely to meet you here..on the web....thanks so much for your feedback...invaluable...regards to you.

hi,
i think its a good initiative, it will explore new opportunity in tourism marketing. but i think cultural heritage tourism is not confined within museums and heritage institution. you have to include cultural activities from day to day life. so far i know people are interested in ethnic culture and life style. this can be a very good niche to delve. best of luck.
