Graduate Employment Tips: Psychometric Testing

Sometimes, psychometric testing will be a required part of your interview process. This is true for both graduate careers, as well as much more senior positions.

While it sounds scary and quite daunting, it's not really. It's simply a way for an employer to get an understanding of your personality type, and whether or not you're the right fit for the business.

A test that's often used is the Myers Briggs Type Indicator. This comprehensive test provides you with a series of multiple choice questions, and then puts those answers on a sliding scale. Once you've answered, it will then categorise you into one of 16 psychological types.

The test for graduates may include questions about what you like and dislike, your general knowledge, your skill with numbers, what motivates you, and aspects of work that you regard as important.

To prepare for a psychometric test and maximise your chances of landing a post graduate career, it's worth doing some research. Have a look on the internet for some sample tests, and run through as many as you can. If you're familiar with the format and what to expect, they will seem much less scary on the day.
